Free family health insurance

Spouses, registered partners and children may be covered without their own contributions through a statutory health insurance member, provided residence, income and insurance-status conditions are met.
Documents and information to prepare
- Health insurer’s family insurance form
- Main member’s details and insurance number
- ID documents for family members to be covered
- Marriage or registered partnership certificate where needed
- Children’s birth certificates
- Current income evidence: wages, Minijob, pension, self-employment or other income
- For adult children: school, university or vocational training certificate
- Other insurance and the other parent’s income when one parent is not statutorily insured
- Romanian residence or situation records if the family lives in two countries
Important to know
In 2026 the general regular-income limit is €565 per month, or €603 for a Minijob. Income is not the only condition; the health insurer periodically checks continuing eligibility.
